When marketing yourself online many entrepreneurs wonder what exactly should they be posting? A lot of small business owners fall into the trap of posting too many sales or advertisement posts about their products and services yet never actually seeing it bring in new clients or gain substantial engagement. Today we’ll be talking about exactly what you should be posting and how to curate and create content for social media marketing.
The first step before your begin creating social media content is clearly defining your goals:
- Create an online presence for your business?
- Increase brand awareness?
- Get new leads?
- Establish your brand as an industry leader?
- Sell products directly from the app?
Only 20% of your content should be promotional/sales so what else should you be posting?
- Behind-the-scenes posts: Give followers a look at your office, your storefront, or your manufacturing process.
- Quotes and text-based images: Play with text to create visually interesting content with no photos required.
- Regrams and UGC: User-generated content is by nature authentic and compelling.
- Instructional posts: Teaching followers how to achieve a goal is about as compelling as it gets.
- Videos: Video posts can be between 3 seconds and 10 minutes in length (60 minutes for selected accounts).
Here are my favorite 5 places to curate and create content for social media:
Canva – a great resource to design beautiful posts and videos
Feedly – a great place to find related articles for your business
Industry Influencers – check out their profiles and what types of content they post and try to use it as inspiration
Using Keyword Research – “Improve SEO with Keyword Research”
Stock Photos – Unsplash and Pexels are great free stock photos sites, you can also get free stock photos in Canva if you have a Canva pro account
