Although each social media strategy is unique due to the needs of each customer base and the product or service they offer, there are many tips that can be applied regardless of the industry you are in.

Don’t Underestimate the Powerfulness of Image Postings

Images are quickly becoming what social media users are drawn to most. Instagram, an image only social media platform is increasingly becoming more popular. It could be a meme, a quote paired with a stunning background, or a picture of a night out with friends. Thinks about what of images your target audience is drawn to and get your picture posts up. Take selfie at an event with one of your colleagues, share a picture of your home work area after a long day’s work, or take a picture of yourself doing your weekly podcast. No matter the industry, people appreciate an inside look in the day to day experience of your small business. These small steps can go a long way in increasing the engagement of your social media audience. People usually share items on social media that resonate with them so keep this mind with every social media post that you put out there.

Share Your Heart Out

The work involved with posting on social media doesn’t have be all on your own. There are millions of pieces of content being created hourly on the internet. Instead of feeling the pressure to always have to create it yourself, utilize external sources. Screenshot a Twitter post you love and post it on your Facebook and Instagram pages or share an interesting article from your favorite motivational speaker. This also falls in line with keeping the content on your pages current without having to create content from scratch. Facebook allows you to search for and find content with just about any subject matter or industry. Give yourself a break sometimes and allow the expertise of another source to convey the desired messaging to your audience. You will enjoy he time you get back to focus on other areas of your business.

Don’t Forget to Engage with Your Customers

It doesn’t matter what you are selling, what service you are providing, or who you are selling it to; engaging with your customers is must. Your consistency can be perfect, and your content can be fresh and exciting, but at the end of the day it should also become a priority for your customer base to get to know you and even feel comfortable asking for your insight. Every once in a while, pose a question on one of your daily posts instead of an article picture, or blog post. Do a Facebook live session once a month where your social media following can ask your advice in your areas of expertise or a quick “how to” video on a popular topic among your followers. People are most likely to do business with someone they know and trust. Social media is one of the many ways that these relationships can be built.

Throw Some Nostalgia in the Mix

When all else fails, or even when all is going well, Nostalgia is a great social media marketing strategy that is really resonating with millennials. Nostalgia is why 90s’s themes parties are still a thing and Poetic Justice braids have made a comeback.  Things that reflect Nostalgia give people that comforting feeling of a familiar time in their life with fondness. Consider a “#TBT” hashtag every once in a while, to shake things up. This can be a lot of things such as a picture from 10 years ago when you went thru an awkward stage or bad haircut, your very first social media post as a small business owner, you and your very first client, and many more.  There is also plenty of vintage pop culture references out there that you can use while still staying true to your brand and marketing strategy.
